Earn Money From Blogging |
So you’re ready to start a blog,
but you’ve never done this before. One problem is that the amount of online
information about how to start a blog, make money from it, and generate a
passive income is massive. This article will go through all of the necessary
steps needed to get started on your journey blogging for cash!
The first thing we need to do is
go over some basics: making sure everyone understands exactly what we mean by
“blog,” and also ensuring that everyone understands what we mean when we say
“passive income.” For these purposes, we’ll define blogging as simply having an
online presence where people can come and read what you have written, in most
cases completely for free. And we talk about passive income as income that is
generated whether you’re actively working or not.
It’s important to note that I am
going to go over the “basics” in this article, and not delve into greater
detail regarding some of the more advanced strategies such as using keywords
properly (not spamming) and on-page SEO techniques. That type of information
will be covered in a future guide. For now, let’s get started!
Start Your Blog with WordPress
[beginning of intro]
I want to make something clear
right off the bat: starting a blog doesn’t require any sort of coding knowledge
whatsoever. All you need to start a blog with WordPress is an idea and
somewhere between twenty minutes and two hours—that depends on how comfortable
you are with technology. One of the best things about WordPress is that it’s
free, which means that anyone can start a blog with it.
You don’t need to pay anything to get started blogging for cash!
If you’re serious about making
money from your blog, then you’re going to need to learn at least some HTML and
CSS because what I’m about to show you will require you to know how to edit
your site’s header. Don’t worry, though—we’ll cover HTML and CSS later in
greater detail. Before we do any of this stuff, however, let’s go over the
absolute basics about how all of this works so you have a general understanding
before we start messing around with anything—even if it’s just the basics.
First things first, let’s go
download WordPress so you can get started immediately. If you have a blog
already that currently uses another platform, then I recommend that you keep it
as is because starting over from scratch will take forever—and I’m talking
about months here. So just modify your current site to meet these requirements
if it’s not too complicated of a process for you to do on your own (this
depends on the design and how much work there is to be done). If you’re not
sure whether or not this applies to your situation, send me an email and we’ll

To Start Your Blog with
WordPress:
Go to WordPress.org
Click “Download WordPress”
Start the installation process by following
the instructions provided on that page
Once you have successfully
installed WordPress, you’re ready to get started. So let’s go over how this
works in detail so there are no misconceptions here at all.
The first thing you need to do is
sign up for a new account with WordPress.org. From there, simply download and
install it like you would any other application—just follow the instructions
when prompted. Once it’s finished installing, log into your site using the
login information displayed after installation (if not displayed, then use:
[insert default username and password here]). Now click “Appearance,” followed
by “Themes.” This is where we can start customizing our blog design to make it
look the way we want it to, so let’s go ahead and click "Add New" in
the upper right-hand corner. Start by searching for a theme that you like (if
you already have one in mind).
Once you’ve found something that
looks good, click the “Install” button next to it. It’ll say something along
the lines of: “Downloading Theme X,” obviously replacing X with whatever your
theme is called. Once that finishes downloading, click “Activate.” If your blog
still doesn’t look like what you wanted after activating, then keep clicking
preview until it does—of course, this only applies if you’re unhappy with how
things look. You can also use a different style altogether if you want to
create something unique, but for now let’s just use one of the default themes
they provide, which are more than good enough anyway.
Again, if you have your
preferences in mind already for how you want your blog to look, then keep using
that theme (or start with a different one altogether). There are some great
free ones out there (and some not-so-great ones), so do your research first
before settling on anything. If it doesn’t look like what you had in mind after
previewing five or six options, then go ahead and switch to another one—there
are plenty of pre-made WordPress themes out there, so you shouldn’t have too
much trouble finding something decent. This is why I recommend it because once
you have a blog up and running, it can continue bringing in an income without
you being involved.
Now that we’ve got
the basics covered, let’s get started on the list of how to start a blog and
make money online:
Start by setting up a free blog on Tumblr or
WordPress.com. These are both great options to
get going with blogging! WordPress is arguably the best choice for professional
bloggers who plan on sticking around long term, but for beginners starting a
free hosting account on either site will work just fine. Start your free blog
right now at [put links here]. Once you have signed up, make sure you check
back here soon so we can learn how to add content to your new blog!
Start writing. You can begin by simply following the step
above, or by creating your free blog on WordPress.com (which will be installed
automatically for you when you sign up). Start by writing about anything that
interests you; eventually, people will start finding your blog through search
engines like Google.
Start sharing what you write with others who
might be interested in what’s going on in your life. Start commenting on other blogs that are
relevant to yours, and share them with everyone in the various social media
circles you participate in; this is how most popular bloggers initially started
out getting traffic to their blogs. Remember: don’t focus too much on putting
ads all over the place with AdSense or some other method of monetization—if you
do, your blog will turn off potential visitors; focus on writing helpful and
valuable content instead!
Start driving traffic to your blog. Start posting links to your new blog
everywhere: forums, social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, and anywhere
else you can think of. Start promoting your blog the same way you promote
yourself as a person (online or otherwise); if it interests people and they
want to know more about what’s going on in your life, then they’ll follow that
link back to take a look at what you’re doing with blogging. Don’t forget:
blogging is nothing without interaction with others! This is why we need those
social circles I mentioned before—they are vital to making money online with a
blog.
Start building your blog into something that
can bring in an income for you. Start
finding advertisers or other people who might want to pay you to write on your
blog; just because you’re starting doesn’t mean they won’t be interested in
working with someone whose blog is getting more and more popular every day by
the minute! It’s not easy, but it will certainly help if you find some kind of
focus with blogging—be it writing about a specific niche (like finance or
dating), or writing about any topic under the sun (perhaps travel, fashion,
celebrities, etc.). Start putting ads all over your site (from AdSense, Amazon,
etc.), and then start explaining what they are when people click through them
(assuming you want to make money this way). Start creating your products (like
eBooks or online courses) and sell them on your blog; doing so will encourage
people to keep coming back for more, which is what we ultimately want. Start
writing guest posts for other blogs. Start building up an email list; use it to
promote affiliate links, advertisements, etc., as well as any products that you
might be selling with your blog. Start using social media sites like Facebook,
Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Vine, Google+, etc., to help spread the word
about your new blog!
Start earning money with your blog. Keep in mind that nobody gets rich
overnight from blogging. It takes hard work, but the payoffs can be more than
worthwhile—as long as you keep working and keep enjoying what you’re doing.
Start earning money with your blog: AdSense, Amazon Associates, eBay Partner
Network, etc. Start signing up for affiliate programs (for example, FlexOffers
and CJ Affiliate ). Start creating new revenue streams; maybe by offering
services to people who might need them (such as ghostwriting or editing). Start
building relationships with brands that may want to work with you on sponsored
posts or posts about their products (see our tips on how to get paid to write
online ); this is one of the easiest ways to make money from blogging, but it
doesn’t last forever. Start using a service like Fiverr, Upwork, Elance,
Freelancer, etc., to earn money in a variety of ways (such as proofreading or
editing, designing graphics and logos, taking photographs, doing transcription
work for audio files, copywriting services, etc.). Start selling your products
(like eBooks) on your blog; you don’t even need to make them fancy! Start
offering services like web design and social media promotion. Start selling
advertising space directly on your blog (this is what we do at Online Money
Blogs —you can also check out our tips on how to get paid to write online if
you’re interested in learning more). Start using Affiliate Royale or other
affiliate marketing networks.
